Diving Information:
  • A Tri-Mix dive.
  • Lies on her port side in a East-North-East to West-South-West direction..
  • Conning tower and gun terrets have collapsed onto the seabed.
  • 20mm gun barrels on both turrets are intact.
  • Starboard prop is still visible, the other is buried in the sand.
  • Aft hatch and torpedo loading hatch are both open.
  • Forward hydroplanes are visible in moored position.
  • Rudder has become detached.
 
Historical Information:
  • A XX1 Diesel/Electric Class, she was built in August 1944 by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg and measured 76.70 x 8.00 x 11.30 metres and grossed 1,621 tons.
  • She was powered by 2 supercharged 6 cylinder diesel engines, 2 double-acting electric motors and 2 silent-running electric motors giving a top speed of 17.2 knots (electric).
  • U2506 conducted no patrols, and surrendered on 9 May 1945 in Bergen, Norway.
  • She was then transferred to Lerwick on 18 June 1945, and then Lisahally, Co. Derry on 21 June 1945.
  • It is possible she sank under tow as she exhibits no sign og damage.
  • Her commander was Captain Horst von Schroeter.
